Sony appeals against mod-chipping
Sony Computer Entertainment Australia is to appeal to the Full
Bench of the Federal Court following a court ruling that
“mod-chipping” of Sony PlayStation consoles do not breach
Australian copyright law.
Earlier this year, Sony launched a court action against a Mr
Stevens for allegedly selling pirated copies of its PlayStation games
and modification chips.

First hybrid scanner launched
The world's first hybrid scanner, capable of reading radio
frequency identification (RFID) tags as well as barcodes at the store
checkout, has been unveiled in Chicago.
The prototype device - a scanner from NCR that includes an RFID
reader from Alien Technology Corp - was demonstrated during the
Frontline Solutions Expo this week.

New supermarket group underway
Australia’s first AUR Food-Rite store opened this month,
marking the birth of the newly combined supermarket group.
Victorian-based Food-way Community Supermarkets have just
officially joined Australian United Retailers (AUR) to create a group
of 550 stores throughout four states, including the new AUR Food-Rite
supermarket banner.

Qld’s Reed buys Big Top
Reed Property Group has bought the 28,700 square metre Big Top
Shopping Centre site in Maroochydore, on Queensland’s Sunshine
Coast.
The purchase, for an undisclosed sum, is expected to more than
double the end value of Reed Property Group’s commercial and
residential developments on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast,
currently sitting in excess of $250 million.
