‘Tis the season to beware of SKIMMING
With only five per cent of all credit card fraud being reported to
the police and in the context of credit card debt soaring to a record
$21 billion in September, Australia is in danger of becoming happy
hunting ground for sophisticated counterfeiters.
Visa International fraud specialist Ian McKindley attributes much
of a rise in credit card fraud to a massive shift from stealing cards
to counterfeiting them.

Youth must be served, DJ decides
Merchandising director Mark McInnes has been named Chief Executive
Officer of David Jones Ltd and takes up his new role when Peter
Wilkinson retires from the post at the end of January next year. Mr.
McInnes, 37, will also join the Board of David Jones.
He joined the company in July 1997, and has worked in the retail
industry for 20 years. He has an MBA from Melbourne University.

Keycorp steps up security options
Secure electronic transaction solutions provider Keycorp Ltd has
signed a non-exclusive Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Precise
Biometrics, a leading developer of biometric security solutions, to
develop and market the world’s most secure biometric-enabled
smartcard operating system.
Under the agreement, Precise Biometrics will integrate its Precise
BioMatic C technology into Keycorp’s MULTOS operating system,
enabling fingerprint matching to be performed at the transaction
point.

Pay rise flow-through
Recruitment agency Frontline Retail’s
Annual Salary Guide 2002
shows a significant increase in the average salary of assistant
managers and salespeople nationally, as well as at the department
manager level in Sydney.
According to managing director Debbie Davis, there’s been a
flow-on effect in retail salary rises in the past six years.

The deadline for compliance under NSW’s new Occupational
Health and Safety Act 2000 has passed. But be warned - compliance is
absolute and can not be delegated.
The duties are ongoing and matters of safety must be considered to
be an evolving process and thus reviewed on a timely basis. But while
non-compliance might bring about severe penalties, these are nothing
compared to the costs to lives that ignoring safety issues brings.
